Optimal Identification and Metaheuristic PID Control of a Two-Tank System

In the modern optimization context, this paper introduces an optimal PID-based control strategy for a two-tank installation, namely ASTANK2. The process model was identified by using raw and spline smoothed measured data, respectively. Two PID controller configurations, standard (regular) one (PID-R) non-standard (PID-N), were considered each type of model, resulting in four regulators. tuning parameters regulator obtained searching approach relying on combination two metaheuristics. Firstly, improved version Hill Climbing algorithm employed to comprehensively explore space, aiming find fairly accurate parameters. Secondly, Firefly Algorithm proposed intensively refine search around previously found A comparative analysis between controllers achieved terms performance robustness. simulation results showed that all yielded good presence exogenous stochastic noise (bounded error tracking, setpoint reduced overshoot, short settling time). Robustness is extensive illustrates PID-R are more robust uncertainties, whilst PID-N tracking staircase references.
